Gallery: Greta Thunberg at the Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate Event

Today I attended the Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate, with guest speaker Greta Thunberg.

Youth climate organisation Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate re-organised the event after Swedish activist Greta Thunberg announced that she will be attending.

Bristol YS4C are currently celebrating their first anniversary as an organisation. The collective initially began with two people - and growth was clearly shown today with the event's attendance hitting approximately 30,000 people.

This is what Greta had to say:

"This is an emergency.

People are already suffering and dying from the consequences of the climate and environmental emergency but it will get worse.

Still this emergency is being completely ignored by politicians, the media and those in power.

Basically, nothing is being done to halt this crisis despite all the beautiful words and promises for the elected officials.

So what did we do during this crucial time? What we will do right now?

Well I will not stand aside and watch, I will not be silenced while the world is on fire - will you?

Activism works. So I'm telling you to act.

If you look throughout history, all the great changes have come from the people.

We are being betrayed by the people in power and they are failing us but we will not back down.

If you feel threatened by that, then I have some very bad news for you - we will not be silenced because we are the change and change is coming whether you like it or not.

Thank you and let's march."
